Every time I hear the term SOLIDARITY what comes to my mind is the image that I know would make my father amazed and humbled.

“Solidarity is the name of the first opposition movement against the Communist party in Poland that finally was able to come together in great force in 1989. They were spearheaded by their leader Lech Walesa, and presented such strength that the Poles were able to finally hold free elections .

An imaginative and talented young graphic artist named Tomasz Sameck designed a great poster that used the iconic image of the lonely “good man”--- Gary Cooper as the Marshall of the film High Noon -- striding down an endless street seeking justice . But in his hand he is not holding a gun, but a BALLOT.

This poster was placed in every polling place in the country when the Polish citizens came out to vote for the first time in free elections.

As that symbol of what was happening in Poland I can only imagine how deep my fathers feelings would run and how happy he would be for his image even from a film, to be used as a symbol for freedom.
