After Fredric March read the play, he told Gary Cooper about it, and Cooper urged Paramount to buy the film rights to it - which they did for $26,000 ($515,000 in 2019).At the beginning of the film, Biff and Snappy are depicted drinking Old Crow whiskey, at the time one of the most popular brands in the U.S.
